Foreign ministers from twelve countries, including Pakistan, have strongly condemned Israel’s reported attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission bound for Gaza.

The joint statement was issued after Israeli naval forces intercepted vessels from the flotilla’s Spring 2026 mission in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea, near the coast of Greece. The flotilla was carrying humanitarian activists and aid intended for Gaza, where the ongoing blockade has created a severe humanitarian crisis.

The statement was signed by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Brazil, Jordan, Pakistan, Spain, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia, Maldives, South Africa, and Libya. The ministers said the flotilla was a peaceful civilian initiative aimed at drawing global attention to the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

They described the interception of vessels and detention of activists as a violation of international law and international humanitarian law. According to the statement, such actions undermine the safety of humanitarian operations and set a dangerous precedent for aid missions operating in international waters.

The ministers urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by ensuring respect for international law, protecting civilians, and holding those responsible for violations accountable.

The incident has also sparked public reactions across Europe. In Italy, thousands of people staged protests in major cities including Rome, Milan, Naples, and Turin, condemning the attack on the aid convoy. Demonstrators called for stronger international action to protect humanitarian missions and address the crisis in Gaza.

The Global Sumud Flotilla had set out to deliver essential supplies and highlight the humanitarian situation in the region, but its mission was disrupted amid rising tensions in the eastern Mediterranean.
